Adding a Tab Staff

How to insert a guitar tab staff block into your song and start entering notes.

Use the + Tabs button when you want to place guitar tablature directly into your song.

Insert a tab block

Place your cursor where the tab should go in the document.

Click + Tabs in the toolbar.

A new tab block appears in the song.

Click on the tab block to put it in edit mode.

New tabs start as a standard six-string guitar tab.

Enter notes into the tab

Once the tab is in edit mode, click any cell in the tab and start typing.

Each cell holds one visible character. After you type a character, Chordly automatically moves you to the next cell so you can keep entering the line.

That makes it fast to enter:

  • fret numbers like 0, 3, or 7
  • muted strings like x
  • simple technique marks like / or h

Move around the tab

While editing a tab, you can move through it with the keyboard:

  • Arrow keys move between cells
  • Tab moves forward
  • Shift+Tab moves backward
  • Enter moves down to the next string
  • Space moves forward without writing a character

If you keep moving past the last cell in the row, Chordly adds a new column for you so you can continue typing.
