Editing Chords
Edit an existing chord in Chordly, change the symbol, and reuse chord formatting with the chord action menu.
Editing a chord starts from the chord itself. Click it once and Chordly opens a small action menu above the chord.
Change a chord symbol
Click the chord you want to change.
In the floating menu, click Edit Chord.
Update the symbol in the Chord Symbol field.
Press Enter or click Update Chord.
The chord editing menu includes a live preview area that updates while you work, so you can see how the chord will look above the lyrics before you update it. As you change the chord symbol or its styling, the preview updates with it.
Chords and lyric formatting
By default, a chord follows the line's text size and font family. Opening the chord editing menu does not break that.
A chord only stops following the line for those settings if you explicitly choose a different Font Size or Font Family for that chord. Once you do that, that chord keeps its own setting instead of continuing to follow the line.
Other chord styling, such as color, background, bold, italic, and underline, is already chord-specific when you set it.
Reuse formatting from another chord
The same floating menu also gives you two quick formatting actions:
- Copy Formatting
- Paste Formatting
Use these when you want several chords to share the same color treatment, background, font, or emphasis without rebuilding the style manually each time.
What happens if you cancel
While the chord editing menu is open, Chordly updates the chord as you type so the preview stays accurate. If you close the menu with Cancel or click away instead of confirming, the chord goes back to its original symbol and formatting.
If you only want to move a chord, drag it instead of editing it. Dragging within the same line repositions the chord without changing its text.
