Transposing Chords

Transpose chords in Chordly with the toolbar controls. Shift a selected section or the whole song up or down by semitone.

You can transpose chords directly from the editor toolbar without rewriting the chart by hand.

Transpose from the toolbar

The transpose control is a two-button toggle in the toolbar:

  • the upper button transposes up by one semitone
  • the lower button transposes down by one semitone

Select the part of the document you want to transpose if you only want to change one section.

If you want to transpose the whole chart, leave everything unselected.

Click the transpose up or transpose down button in the toolbar.

If there is a selection, Chordly transposes the chords inside that selection. If there is no selection, it transposes every chord in the document.

What gets transposed

Chordly transposes standard chord symbols, including slash chords such as F/A.

If a chord entry is really acting as a notation marker rather than a chord symbol, Chordly leaves it alone. That is useful when you use the chord layer for cues like repeats, key-change notes, or dynamics.
