Formatting Chords
Format individual chords in Chordly with color, background, font size, font family, bold, italic, and underline controls.
Chord formatting is separate from lyric formatting. You can style one chord without changing the line underneath it.
Open the chord formatting controls
You can set chord formatting in two places:
- in the chord editing menu before you insert a new chord
- in the chord editing menu after clicking an existing chord
Click a chord and choose Edit Chord, or press Cmd+K / Ctrl+K to insert a new one.
Use the formatting controls in the chord editing menu.
Confirm with Update Chord or Insert Chord.
Formatting options
Each chord can have its own:
- Bold
- Italic
- Underline
- Text Color
- Background
- Font Size
- Font Family
There is also a Clear Formatting action in the chord editing menu if you want to strip the overrides and go back to the default look.
Default vs. custom formatting
By default, a chord inherits the line's text size and font family. It only keeps an override when you actually change those settings.
Copy and paste formatting
If you already styled one chord the way you want, you do not need to rebuild it manually.
Click the formatted chord.
Click Copy Formatting.
Click another chord.
Click Paste Formatting.
This is one of the fastest ways to build notation systems inside a chart, such as one color for key changes and another for repeats or cues.
